Business Process Management

Over the past few years, the phrase “Business Process Management” (BPM) has been used to describe a wide range of capabilities which are designed to support sequences of work carried out by responsible people and/or systems in order to achieve a ‘valuable’ result.

Companies that offer technology support for process related transaction processing assume that BPM is delivered by a BPM System which automates and controls the flows through the process. Within the BPM System interpretation, further differences arise from the emphasis that is placed on related systems capabilities such as workflow, activity measurement, application integration, document management, competency planning and execution, quality management and defect reduction, etc.

In the words of the Butler Group:

“BPM primarily concerns the business. Whilst many of the players in the large and complex BPM market may not disagree with this simple statement in a verbal or strategic sense, their solutions tell a different story. BPM seems to have been interpreted by software vendors as an IT sell — a technology-driven solution. Our assertion is that if you are going to manage a process effectively, you need to start with an understanding of the business and the role of the process within such. There are powerful cause-and-effect relationships that exist between processes, even between those that may at first appear unrelated. Clearly these need to be understood and considered when looking to benefit from BPM.”Business Process Management — A Guide to Navigating the Process Minefield, Butler Group

At Adaptive Arts, we believe that the highest priority for organisations today is to understand current work practices and to use this understanding to improve the management of change to deliver value. In some cases, process automation will lead to improvements, while in others the solution may be delivered through a redeployment of existing resources. The Adaptive Arts Modeler provides the capability to model business processes and roles. The business processes can be related to work practices and refinement of job roles. If appropriate, IT systems can be developed or leveraged to support these processes.

Business Process Execution Management

Adaptive Arts provides open interfaces to allow the models to be integrated with many Business Process Management Systems. The ability to generate code into native .NET and J2EE allows maximum portability across platforms as well as specific execution engines.

Adaptive Arts provides the ability to select pre-built application components (Adaptive Arts Business Components) to match the business processes which have been modelled.
